Legend Explained

The colored dots next to each number represent the scale degrees relative to the root note (1). These help you understand a note’s function inside the scale:

    ● 1Root note, the tonal center of the scale.

    ● ♭3Minor third, gives the blues or minor character.

    ● 4Perfect fourth, a tension note leading up to the 5.

    ● ♭5Flat fifth, the “blue note”, creates the blues tension.

    ● 5Perfect fifth, stabilizes the sound and resolves tension.

    ● ♭7Minor seventh, defines blues/mixolydian flavor.

    ● 7Major seventh, adds a jazzy, floating tension that wants to resolve to the octave.

On the harp layout, each colored cell corresponds to a note of the current scale. White cells are notes outside the selected scale. The black bar in the center shows the hole numbers (1–10).

Tip: Turn on Degree Coloring to see the same color system applied to every note position.
